This past Saturday we celebrated Eliza’s first birthday with some of our family and friends. It wasn’t a huge gathering, but certainly the most important people in Eliza’s first year of life were there.
We started about five o’clock and the weather was perfect (compared to Ella’s first birthday party in July a few years ago). The kids colored with sidewalk chalk on the driveway and hung out in the yard, on the deck, or on the trampoline. Some of the older girls and Ella played inside for awhile.

We had slaw dogs and chili dogs, potato chips, and mom’s noodle salad. Of course Mema made an adorable strawberry owl cake that everyone enjoyed. Especially Eliza… who didn’t faceplant the cake as I hoped she would. She ate her own cake very methodically.
Garrison, Joshua, Kellen and a few others kept chanting, “eat it, eat it!”
You want some Mom?
How ‘bout you Granddaddy? Mmm, good!
Eliza got lots of wonderful gifts—from adorable outfits, to a monkey pool, to her first ride on four wheeler! Her daddy and I got her a book and a push mower that makes all kinds of crazy sounds.
Granny even brought a present for Ella! It was the movie, Beauty and the Beast.
